2011
Instead of preparing and studying my lectures for the week, I spent my Sunday afternoon watching this

I remember badly wanting to watch this film. But for some reason I can't even remember, I failed to catch it on the big screen. I bought a DVD copy which I just allowed to sleep in one of my storage boxes. I was tidying up my things the past few weeks and intentionally took out the DVD. My laziness overpowered me and in effect, it took me weeks to finally watch it.

It wasn't the best film. It didn't receive the best reviews but I actually liked it. The movie featured a lot of substories from family, career, and relationships. The ending highlighted Sarah Jessica Parker and Josh Duhamel's rekindled affair. This should have awakened my romantic hormones but it didn't. It appeared to me as a fairy tale meant to happen only in books. Hillary Swank's portrayal of fulfilling the demands of her career and an ailing father also didn't appeal to me. I found myself appreciating the story of Michelle Pfeiffer, minus the budding May-December affair with Zac Efron.

I hate to admit it but I see much of myself in the shoes of Michelle Pfeiffer. Ingrid (Michelle Pfeiffer) was portrayed as the typical pathetic and lifeless office employee. Give me more years of laziness and hopelessness, I will end up exactly like Ingrid. When Ingrid finally quitted her job, she gave herself a chance.  She wrote her New Year's resolution list hoping to fulfill everything by midnight. To make this possible,  Ingrid entered a deal with Paul (Zac Efron). Paul will get the tickets for the Masquerade Ball if he will help Ingrid complete her list.

Not that I wanted Zac Efron :) but the fulfillment of Ingrid's wish list affected me. I ended up asking myself when will I have the courage to pursue my own list? In the first place, when will I finally write down the things I wanted to achieve?

I always say that I'm too occupied with work related concerns. Count more years and I will soon realize that I'm occupying myself with nothing. Work will forever remain as work. But my life? It's not meant to stay with me. I recognize and value my responsibilities but I know, time will come when I will ask myself... Did I really live my life?

Perhaps this is just part of my occasional quarter life crisis attacks. I will be occupied and soon enough, I will forget this. I just have to prepare myself  on the next time I will encounter this. The cycle will recur and I can't avoid it. Part of me is wishing that I should just go on because in the end, everything will be fine.

CONTEST IS CLOSED

Three more days and we will all bid goodbye to 2011. I can't believe that another year is over! Everything still feels like yesterday. As they say, time flies so fast and before you realize it, a lot of things have already happened.

2011 will forever remain as a lucky and memorable year for me. My first ever international research presentation and first trip abroad happened in this year. God has also been gracious enough to give me plenty of free lance jobs.  Though the early months of my 2011 wasn't that good because I lost a friend and I was almost hospitalized just because of neglected cough, God compensated and gave me a blast at the end of the year.

I also had my share of bad times and frustrations in 2011, but all the blessings were more than enough to make me happy and thankful. So to further spread the luck and happiness, I'm hosting my second humble GIVEAWAY!

Here's what you can win

Since most of my blog friends, followers and readers are female, I decided to have a pink tote bag for the giveaway.
The bag is reversible so you can choose between the floral or the pink stripes.

How to join?
1. leave a comment (including your full name, blog url and email address) and
2. answer this question
"Among my 2011 posts, which one did you like the most?"
You don't have to be a follower or make a post for my giveaway to qualify. :-)  But if you want to do so, I will highly appreciate it.

Everyone is entitled to only one entry.  The prize will be shipped for free to anywhere in the world. The winner will be drawn through random.org and will be announced anytime on January 2, 2012. You can join my giveaway as long as I don't disable the comments in this post.

In a few hours, we will all bid our farewell to 2010. But before welcoming 2011, I'd like to recall some events that made my 2010.

1. Death of my last grandmother - My 2010 started with a loss. My Lola Florentina peacefully joined our creator last January 9, 2010.

2. Paper Accepted to an International Presentation - I was not happy with my career. God perhaps wanted to awaken me. In the middle of the year, my paper was accepted for presentation to an international research conference. I suddenly went back in pace. I was happy and enthusiastic about my career and my entire life.

3. New job! - I did not leave my workplace but I was given a new job assignment. I was transferred to another office with a new work and job title. This is perhaps God's way of breaking my monotonous life and career. He placed me to a new venture to divert my attention to something else. The research presentation and the new job gave me like a renewed life. I was really back in track.

3. International Conference did not push through - This is something I resented. Tears made my week when I learned that my research presentation will not push through. Unfortunately, the hostage taking incident in the Philippines discouraged the Taiwanese organizers to pursue the conference.

4. Threat of job loss? - I can feel this now but I prefer not to discuss its specific details. Just when you thought that life would be almost perfect, some s@#$! and a@#$%^&** are definitely there to ruin everything. If God could hear me, you know my sentiments... Please don't place me in the end of the cliff again.

5. Money lost - I lost a significant amount of my hard earned 13th month pay from a ruthless criminal. I don't want to further relate the details. But if I have one thing to thank for, my family remained unharmed.

6. Shopaholic attack! - I made excessive shopping and spending this year. I, for some reason, find shopping as my frustration outlet. With those frustrations I had in the past months, shopping has been my constant companion.

My 2010 was a year full of trials. I know there will be a lot more in 2011. My only wish is that I will have enough strength and courage to face them.

For 2011, these are my prayers and wishes

1. Good Health for me and my family
2. Job Security - Please God!
3. More freelance and consultancy works
4. More friends
5. Happiness!!!!!

Goodbye 2010..... Helloooo 2011!
I started having my own planner in my 26th year of existence :) This is my third year of keeping one and my original plan was to avail of the 2011 Belle de Jour (BDJ) planner. I bought my own copy at Fully Booked Gateway for Php 598 as early as October.

I started using the BDJ planner last year because of its chic design and the discount coupons that attract female shopaholics like me.
I thought I was already settled with my 2011 BDJ.

This year, I'm letting go of my BDJ planner for this

The "Relaks, Puso Lang Yan, Malayo sa Bituka" Planner 2011
This planner is produced by Witty Will Save the World Co. They are also responsible for producing the "I Was Supposed to Get That Coffeehouse Planner But I got Fat/Broke on the 10th Frappe Planner 2010."
I first saw their 2010 planner from my cousin. I was amazed with their hilarious and entertaining concept. But at that time I was already contented with my BDJ.  So how did I land on their 2011 planner?  I was browsing the winners of the 2010 Philippine Blog Awards. One of the awardees was Yoshke for Top Post for 2010 and Best Personal / Diary Blog. The blog incidentally featured the planner and I admit that Yoshke.com was partly to blame ;)
