I've always been amazed with the brand. But like any other member of the working class, I cannot afford their bags. I have been stalking the fashion house for as long as I can remember. Eventually, I discovered some Hermès merchandise I can afford. One of which is their line of publication. I learned about the books when I discovered Hermès' official shopping site in US. I dreamt of completing the entire sketch book series. I managed to purchase one edition, The Metamorphosis.

The four-storey National Bookstore in the heart of Araneta Center has always been one of my favorite places. I had so much memories from this bookstore. I visit the branch with my mother for our annual back to school shopping. In college, I relied on it for hard to find textbooks. I still remember how this branch was considered as the grandest bookstore in Manila. The ground floor was filled with the usual school and office supplies. The second floor housed the fiction reads. The third floor was devoted for text books, school references and those expensive coffee table books. It even has a coffee shop and library where anyone can grab and read a book. The last floor is my favorite. The entire floor was a home for all bargain books. As an additional treat, the glass panel windows provides a skyscrapping view of the Araneta Center. 

Today, the branch maintains only two floors. :( I cannot remember when the management downsized its operations. The school and office supplies remained on the ground floor and all books squeezed in the second floor. I still drop by the branch occasionally. I still love it, although admittedly, so much can be improved from its operations. I'll devote that in another post. ;) 



I think I said a lot. :D The real purpose of this post is to share my experience from an unexpected book sale. I wasn't aware that this branch is hosting a three-day book sale, not until I saw a sponsored Instagram post. The timing was perfect since it was Friday payday. My initial plan was as always, to look around. I arrived around 7 pm but soon enough, I needed a basket to carry my purchases. ;)

National Bookstore Superbranch Cubao's Book Blowout

The four-storey National Bookstore in the heart of Araneta Center has always been one of my favorite places. I had so much memories from this bookstore. I visit the branch with my mother for our annual back to school shopping. In college, I relied on it for hard to find textbooks. I still remember how this branch was considered as the grandest bookstore in Manila. The ground floor was filled with the usual school and office supplies. The second floor housed the fiction reads. I started attending the Manila International Book Fair three years ago. Back then, I remember not expecting anything much from the event. To my surprise, I took home two bags of books. On the succeeding years, I conditioned myself to limit my purchase. I avoided buying anything fiction. I focused on finding rare books in my wish list. Last year, I only took home one book. I bought my first hardbound coffee table book from Kate Spade. This year, I intend to do the same. I went to the hardbound section of Fully Booked and checked out the coffee table and collectors' series. This section usually contains the relatively expensive books. I'll reveal in my next post what I took home. ;) Meanwhile, I'm sharing here photos from the 39th Book Fair. I hope this will become helpful to those who are planning to join the fair until Sunday.

I started reading articles and what blew me away was the difficulty of acquiring either the Birkin or Kelly. Having millions of money does not guarantee any purchase. One has to line up and secure a schedule to visit, especially from their stores in France. You have to build a relationship with the sales assistants to possibly gain an offer for a bag. The relationship includes consistent purchase of expensive non-bag items. It might take two to three years for first time buyers to acquire a Kelly or Birkin. It also appears that the store implements a hidden screening process. 

While I cannot purchase any bag, I started exploring other products from the brand.  I discovered their iconic and historic line of scarves. Still very expensive. I learned about their shoes, fragrance, jewellery, ready-to-wear and surprisingly, a line of books. I discovered it when I learned that Hermès actually has an online store. If I can't afford the bag, I can probably save up for a book. Much to my surprise, the books weren't as expensive as I was expecting.

Big Bad Wolf Book Sale in Manila, Philippines : My Shopping Review

Truth to be told, I wasn't aware of the first Big Bad Wolf Book Sale in Manila. Barely a week before its opening date, my cousin told me about this grandest book sale. I later searched for leads and reviews. Much to my surprise, the event has been ongoing for years in other Asian countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia. It will be the first attempt to have it in Manila.

Those who know me well can easily figure out that events like this easily attracts my weak shopaholic EQ. :p I was determined to join the flock of book shoppers. Although part of me felt reluctant because I already went to National Bookstore's first Book Binge Bazaar, I'm more than contented with the Manila International Book Fair every September, I have more than enough books for the year and I'm saving up for an item in my bucket list. :) What convinced me to join was the responses and encouragement of fellow bloggers from Malaysia and Indonesia. Added to this, I have a group of "enablers" within my family. So off we went to World Trade Center at 1:00 am. We wanted to avoid the crowd, so we thought that the wee hours in the morning was the best time. I guess this is one of the best features of this event. Walking towards the 5th floor to the mega trade hall was a breeze. The few people inside the mall, particularly the millennials, seem to head to one destination. I love the sight of the younger generation eagerly headed to exhibition hall. Much more when I saw that the flock of Book Binge shoppers were teenage to college kiddies. :) Some came with their parents, but most are with their friends. #FriendshipGoals :p Although my heart bleeds whenever I see them returning books because of budget constraints. Deciding which books to let go, even when their hearts long for that crisp hardbound read. 

As I made my way to the shelves, I realized why this event appealed to the younger populace. Most books belong to the genre of Young Adult (YA). Books written by David Levithan, Kiera Cass, Jenny Han, Meg Leder, Robyn Schneider and Jennifer Smith. There were also great selections of children's books and a few lifestyle books. I was hoping to score a nice coffee table book from the lifestyle section. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything interesting.

I don't have intentions of attending National Bookstore's Book Binge Bazaar. I have more than enough books since December. I also have pending orders from Thrift Books. I've been seeing teasers from National Bookstore's Facebook page, nothing appealed to me. A few days before weekend, my cousin signified her intention. Being the dutiful cousin ;), I woke up earlier than my usual Saturday routine. The early morning trip was worth it because less traffic and surprisingly, SM Megamall wasn't populated yet.

As of typing this post, the main website of the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) remains inaccessible. It has exceeded it's bandwith limit, probably because of the continuous outpour of hits. With this post, I hope I can provide useful information to readers trying to get information about the event.

I started attending the MIBF last year. Although I have heard of the event in the past few years, I never attempted to join. I thought everything was devoted for academic related books and publications. I learned that almost all bookstores and publishing companies in the country are participating from fellow Filipino bloggers. Last year, I attended an errand to a nearby government agency. I finished early so I took advantage of the time to see the event. I had an unexpected book shopping spree that caused damage to my credit card. :D This year, I was having second thoughts. I don't want to splurge again. On the last minute, I gave in. But this time, my will power was stronger. I took home one book. I'll share it on my next Sunday post. (Edit: I showed it on the end of this post. #LowEQ Hahaha)

It was during the summer of 2016 when I discovered The Book Stop Project. I love books and libraries so anything that imbibe such concept will appeal to me. Last year, Intramuros became one of the destinations of The Book Stop Project. Check out my post here.

After several months, The Book Stop Project traveled to other places. Fast forward to 2017, the structure of the mobile library was given a major improvement. The roof of the mobile library has wooden bleachers that provided ample and comfortable space for reading. Kudos to the people behind WTA Architecture for always thinking out of the box and believing that libraries remain as partners for creativity and invention.


In my biased opinion, Plaza de Roma is still the best venue for The Book Stop Project. I love that there's a library in the middle of a spacious park and the historical structures in the backdrop.









Today a reader, tomorrow a leader

The Book Stop Project will remain in Intramuros until July 22, 2017.  I encourage everyone to participate in the book donation or exchange project. Leave your books in exchange for other books. Better yet, donate than accumulate. A book you haven't read for years surely deserves another hungry reader. I also noticed the regular presence of children to teenagers.  Unfortunately, the library does not seem to have enough books for this age group. I urge everyone to take this opportunity to donate books for young readers. Although the library welcomes any type of book you can leave.

If Intramuros is far and inconvenient from your end, I can offer a little assistance. You can ship the books to my Manila address and I can leave the books for you. Just send me an email dianewrites15(at)gmail(dot)com.

It was during the summer of 2016 when I discovered The Book Stop Project. I love books and libraries so anything that imbibe such concept will appeal to me. Last year, Intramuros became one of the destinations of The Book Stop Project. Check out my post here.

After several months, The Book Stop Project traveled to other places. Fast forward to 2017, the structure of the mobile library was given a major improvement. It was just one of those weeks that started bad, but ended great. Yeah right, as always. Hahaha Sounds like I'm on the way to rant again. I wanted to remain positive. I wanted to appear like someone always inspired, optimistic, attractive, contented, and best of all, the happiest. All those inspirational quotes, articles and video clips from social media never fail to inspire me. For a while, I feel great and empowered. But when reality starts to sink in, I'm back to my sad and frustrated self. I face the real me. As to how I survive this never ending cycle, I guess this is what defines my real image and existence. What other people see in me, is a summary of all those good and bad things that happened to me. 

I wanted to expound more. I wanted to write more. But with the way things are going, I think I will be repeating the same post I had over the past months. I will end writing the same sentiments. Apologies. I'm struggling. While there is always a way to overcome struggles, this situation is hard to figure out. Along the way, I try to distract myself by venturing to other endeavors. I attempted to do it last week. I'm aware that new ventures are not easy. But the motivation I have was more than enough to forget such expectation. I was inspired to start. When I was finally doing it, it felt like all the motivational anesthesia subsided. Hahaha It wasn't hard. It was harsh. Haha I'm not anymore sure if I will proceed. For a while, I realized that I have been over confident. I underestimated everything. But let's see. As much as I don't want to pressure myself, I think I have to. In reality, my greatest and guaranteed drivers to success are deadlines, fear and all kinds of pressure. Hahaha    

I have nothing much to post from the past week. The highlight of everything was the successful processing of some government related papers and my first attendance to the Manila International Book Fair.





I have to admit. I overspent .... a little. Hahaha I wasn't expecting to take home this much number of books. For the record, this was the first time when I bought the most number of books in one shopaholic day. Haha I was planning to get something from Cecelia Ahern. Problem is, her new titles were not available. This was something I have mentioned in the previous post. Newly releases titles are most likely not available in the Book Fair. But since I went on the third day, there's a possibility that stocks were already depleted. I'm not sure but as far as I know, Cecelia Ahern is not that popular and preferred, relative to the Harry Potter books. 

Being a Business major, I'm quite ashamed to admit that I haven't read The Art of War. It's always on my list but every time I visit the bookstore, there are other books that interest me. The ending, I always forgo the purchase. But since this was sold at 20% off, I had no excuses. Although deep inside, I'm dying to buy Ransom Rigg's Tales of the Peculiar. Hahaha I'm hoping to learn a lot from Sun Tzu. Inspiration is already out of the list because these days, it's easy to find inspiration in my Facebook newsfeed. Hahaha In a day, there's surely one article or photo upload that will leave a degree of motivation. But as mentioned, the effects of the happy and inspired anesthesia are only temporary. Learning, finding something useful and making some success from all those motivations serve as the real measure.... not just for the book to myself as well.

Beautiful Sunday # 231 - Book Fair and some random thoughts



It was just one of those weeks that started bad, but ended great. Yeah right, as always. Hahaha Sounds like I'm on the way to rant again. I wanted to remain positive. I wanted to appear like someone always inspired, optimistic, attractive, contented, and best of all, the happiest. All those inspirational quotes, articles and video clips from social media never fail to inspire me. For a while, I feel great and empowered. But when reality starts to sink in, I'm back to my sad and frustrated self. I face the real me. As to how I survive this never ending cycle, I guess this is what defines my real image and existence. What other people see in me, is a summary of all those good and bad things that happened to me. 

I wanted to expound more. I wanted to write more. But with the way things are going, I think I will be repeating the same post I had over the past months. I will end writing the same sentiments. Apologies. I'm struggling. While there is always a way to overcome struggles, this situation is hard to figure out. Along the way, I try to distract myself by venturing to other endeavors. I attempted to do it last week. I'm aware that new ventures are not easy. But the motivation I have was more than enough to forget such expectation. I was inspired to start. When I was finally doing it, it felt like all the motivational anesthesia subsided. Hahaha It wasn't hard. It was harsh. Haha I'm not anymore sure if I will proceed. For a while, I realized that I have been over confident. I underestimated everything. But let's see. As much as I don't want to pressure myself, I think I have to. In reality, my greatest and guaranteed drivers to success are deadlines, fear and all kinds of pressure. Hahaha    

I have nothing much to post from the past week. The highlight of everything was the successful processing of some government related papers and my first attendance to the Manila International Book Fair.





I have to admit. I overspent .... a little. Hahaha I wasn't expecting to take home this much number of books. For the record, this was the first time when I bought the most number of books in one shopaholic day. Haha I was planning to get something from Cecelia Ahern. Problem is, her new titles were not available. This was something I have mentioned in the previous post. Newly releases titles are most likely not available in the Book Fair. But since I went on the third day, there's a possibility that stocks were already depleted. I'm not sure but as far as I know, Cecelia Ahern is not that popular and preferred, relative to the Harry Potter books. 

Being a Business major, I'm quite ashamed to admit that I haven't read The Art of War. It's always on my list but every time I visit the bookstore, there are other books that interest me. The ending, I always forgo the purchase. But since this was sold at 20% off, I had no excuses. Although deep inside, I'm dying to buy Ransom Rigg's Tales of the Peculiar. Hahaha I'm hoping to learn a lot from Sun Tzu. Inspiration is already out of the list because these days, it's easy to find inspiration in my Facebook newsfeed. Hahaha In a day, there's surely one article or photo upload that will leave a degree of motivation. But as mentioned, the effects of the happy and inspired anesthesia are only temporary. I don't have plans of going to this Book Fair. As much as I love books, I prefer my random trips to the bookstore. I'm also trying my best to avoid expenditures and all those shopaholic temptations. But unexpected circumstances like an errand to a nearby place changed everything. Me happy. Wallet not. Haha 

This Friday, I took a leave from work because I need to arrange some documents from a government agency. I had positive expectations about the efficiency of this government agency. I knew I would finish everything early. Hence, I considered the possibility of dropping by the 37th Manila International Book Fair at SMX Convention Center. True enough, I was able to finish my errands way before lunch time. I took the opportunity to proceed with my first ever attendance to the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF).

I did not become obedient with my plan of avoiding expenditures. But the book addict in me is the happiest! I was  able to acquire books with discounts. To compensate my shopaholic attack, I was able to save more than Php 500 for this shopping escapade. This was also the first time when I purchased the most number of books in one shopaholic day. Haha And given this shopaholic achievement hahaha, I need to do some serious abstinence. I should be banned from purchasing not until 2016 finishes. Let's see! Hahaha 



You can find the names and number of exhibitors here. But as expected, the two biggest exhibitors are the leading bookstores in the country. National Bookstore and Fully Booked occupied the most space in the area. 



National Bookstore also offered non-book items. 


I spent most of my time in Fully Booked. The collections from Fully Booked may not be as extensive as National Bookstore. But for some reason, I found more great titles and selections from Fully Booked. 


I guess everyone shared my sentiments. I noticed that Fully Booked's area was more populated. It felt like everyone was here.


Fully Booked has the most number of titles for The Little Prince. I wanted to take home the anniversary edition in the middle rack. I love that it comes in color blue and has other surprise items inside.

This book was originally priced at Php 699. I wanted it! But it's way out of my budget. Initially, I decided to forgo. But after some contemplation over a great lunch, added the push factor of a friend... the ending can be easily predicted. I returned to the Convention Center and paid the entrance fee again just to get this beautiful cover. Hahahaha 

Don't you just wish that all classical books have creative and attractive covers?

Hands down to the most innovative exhibit. Great job for Rex's Bookstore!

I also checked out Summit Media's booth. I wanted to purchase this new released publication. But I felt reluctant because of pricing issues. Hahaha I wanted to initially browse the contents, but the company does not provide an open copy.  And before I forget, Summit does not offer discounts for their books. Discounted items are limited on back issues  of their magazines. Medyo madamot. (quite selfish) Hahaha

Other than what I mentioned, here are some things I learned and discovered from the Book Fair

1. Newly released titles of foreign books are not available both for National Bookstore and Fully Booked. Or was it because I was late? Maybe everything was already sold out on the first two days. In general, new released best selling titles are not available. 

2. Related to my first observation, selections of both bookstores usually contain old best selling titles and authors. This leads to another finding.

3. Don't expect rare and hard to find books in the Book Fair, especially if you target both National Bookstore and Fully Booked.

4. Some titles are expensive in National Bookstore than Fully Booked. :p This is not about the new Harry Potter book. Hahaha

5. There are a lot of non-book items in the Book Fair. There are toys, Christmas decors, stationery products, religious items sold at discounted prices.

6. Conversely, not all exhibitors offer discounted items. Something I don't like and agree with. The discount can give opportunity for both publishers and authors to be discovered by interested readers.

7. Credit card payments are accepted only on selected exhibitors such as National Bookstore and Fully Booked.

8. The selection of children's books are also extensive both for National Bookstore and Fully Booked. Added to this, even local publishers have their own offering as well. I just forgot the name of the exhibitor, but there's one area where children books are less than Php 50.

I feel so sleepy and tired while typing this post.The two bags were heavy and my arms are starting to ache. I might as well get to sleep, dress up in the comfiest pajamas, softest bed linens with the company of my new books :p

The 37th Manila International Book Fair : My First Time!

I don't have plans of going to this Book Fair. As much as I love books, I prefer my random trips to the bookstore. I'm also trying my best to avoid expenditures and all those shopaholic temptations. But unexpected circumstances like an errand to a nearby place changed everything. Me happy. Wallet not. Haha 

This Friday, I took a leave from work because I need to arrange some documents from a government agency. I had positive expectations about the efficiency of this government agency. It's very rare for me to go on a reading streak these days. More so, land on two books that impressed me. After Aristotle and Dante, I read Wonder by RJ Palacio. The reviews are great. However as always, I'm not often compatible with reviews.  In the case of Wonder, I'm happy to report that the reviews worked well for me. Wonder made it to my list of favorite reads.

The lead character in the book is a kid named August. Unlike other kids, August is special. He has this rare physical disability, which doctor's can't even explain. Despite having a facial deformity, August's learning ability and comprehension were not different to any other kid. The story started when his parents decided to enroll August to a real school. After probably 11 years of being home schooled, August is finally experiencing the life of a typical school kid. Coping with the demands of academics was not a problem for August. In fact, he excelled in most of his subjects. The real problem lies on how the entire school environment is treating August. 

The best thing I love about the book was how it was told. It started with August narrating everything. I later discovered significant people around August relating their sentiments. The narrator I love best was her sister, Via. Having a brother with special needs has its own struggles. Unknown to probably everyone here, I see myself on Via because I also have a special brother. 

Plot structure wise, I have to say hands up to R.J. Palacio's approach of narration. I love how the author presented different perspectives in narrating the story. I love how each character related their endearing stories with August. I felt attached with their own stories. This later made me forget about the much awaited ending. At some point, I didn't want the story to end. There were pains and struggles along the way, but those little stories of redemption and realizations were so priceless.

Character development was equally unparalleled. Parents who have special children will highly appreciate August's transformation. August's character is a perfect dream for parents blessed with special children. While the book is clustered under Young Adult reads, I believe it also works best for parenting.

If you love Diary of a Wimpy Kid, you will definitely love Wonder. More than the humor element though, Wonder is an endearing tale of friendships, family and self-redemption. No doubt, 5 out of 5 stars for Wonder!

How I miss writing boring book reviews like this Hahahahaha

If I'm not mistaken the last book I read and blogged was Marie Kondo's ever popular, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I believed in her principles so I lent the book to someone. Only to discover that someone did not surely read it and worst, I might be not able to recover the book. I feel a little regretful because honestly, the book is expensive and hard to find among the local bookstores. Wishful thinking : I hope I get GCs, discounts or receive it as a Christmas gift.... which surely will not happen because as I have said, the book is so mahalia fuentes (expensive in our local gay linggo). Hahahahaha

Before I make other side stories, I made this post to relate my thoughts about a recent read. I landed on this book because I remember a few months ago, Book Depository sent me a discount voucher that was too hard to resist. The team behind Book Depository said they miss me (or my purchases) so they sent me a discount voucher to rip off my credit card again. Now that's how we define love. Hahahahaha At that time, all I wanted to purchase was the recent coffee table book of Kate Spade.  Problem is as always, expensive. When I did some conversions, I realized that it is still cheaper to purchase here. Although Php 1,128 is still not cheap for a book. I decided to settle for another paperback instead. My ever reliable source was the bestsellers list and Goodreads. I can't exactly remember what convinced me to settle with Aristotle and Dante. As far as I can remember, Goodreads' rating of 4.20 something out of 5 stars made it for me. 

The book garnered four awards. One of which was Michael Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature. I wasn't familiar with the remaining awards. Only to later be surprised with the nature of these three award giving bodies. Truth to be told though, I have reservations with award winning literary pieces. Oftentimes, I end as one of the few who can't appreciate. But I guess, Aristotle and Dante was an exception.

I wanted to relate the theme of the novel but by doing that, I'm giving everyone a full spoiler. The best I can say, the book is another excellent coming of age story. Consider it as one of the classic stories where the young lead character, who happens to be Aristotle, is confused and seeking explanations to the endless complexities of life. In the course of Aristotle's teenage journey, he meets Dante who helped him figured out things including his identity.

The best thing about the book was how the author defined and presented love. Cliche, yes. But I can't help but admire how Benjamin Alire Saenz depicted the many aspects of love. Unselfish. Patient. Understanding. Moving and liberating. He showed different perspectives of love, which stems from family to friends and people we will eventually meet and change the course of our lives. One will surely unleash a different level of understanding and sensitivity for Aristotle and to the few people who might remind us of Aristotle. 

The book is compelling to some extent. As always, I kept a few powerful lines from the author

The problem with my life was that it was someone else's idea.

Maybe we just live between hurting and healing

Scars. A sign that you had been hurt. A sign that you had healed.

Part of me feels that the book was about parenthood. Despite being classified in the genre of Young Adult, I highly recommend this book for parents as well. Somewhere along the way, you will surely appreciate the message behind the story. 

Like what I always mention in my reviews, the areas I check for books include plot structure, character development and predictability of the ending. Plot structure wise, I love how everything was kept simple. Not so much substories which complicates the story. All the events were necessary to lead the much awaited ending. Character development was evidently present. More often than not, the author tends to emphasise character development on the lead subjects. In the case of this book, I love that each of the few character has their own share of development. I like how each of them transformed, consistent with the flow of the story. And as for the ending, at some point I have predicted the ending... especially when I saw the cover of the book's Korean version. It was a giveaway. Now don't google it if you have intentions of reading. But despite the presence of clues and teasers, I guess I was overpowered by the author's approach in story telling. It made up for everything.

With this, I'll leave my 5 out of 5 stars rating for Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.

I cannot remember where did I exactly learn about The Book Stop Project. The nearest I can recall is is within the newsfeed of my Facebook account. I saw the concept being installed in the gardens of Ayala Triangle.

The Book Stop Project is a mobile and open library that implements a complete honesty system. Anyone can borrow or exchange books, no need for identification and other documents. In order to increase and maintain its collections, everyone is encouraged to donate books. 

I was surprised to see a number of college kiddies eagerly browsing and enjoying the few collections left. A proof that there's still love and life to print! My attention was also caught by a few street kids sharing and enjoying the hardbound picture books. And contrary to your fears, they didn't take away the books. I stayed for a while and was amazed by the discipline instilled on them. They returned and even volunteered to arrange the books on the shelves. 

I highly encourage everyone to share a few items from your book collections. The place is also a good avenue for the KonMari disciples. :p If you have books that do not anymore spark joy, leave it on the shelves of The Book Project. It will surely give joy to another eager reader. Some of your books may just be consuming space, collecting dust and mites. Give your old and excess books a new life by sharing them to another hungry reader. :) There are no restrictions as to the type of book you can donate. But of course, the project may not be the best place for your FHM magazines and the like. :p As I have said, the library is open for anyone .... even for kids. :) 

The Book Stop Project is currently housed at Plaza de Roma in Intramuros, Manila. It's the park fronting the Manila Cathedral, Palacio del Gobernador (the building that houses the Commission on Elections) and restored building of Ayutamiento de Manila (currently the home of Bureau of Treasury). I love the location because I'm one of the few old souls who still appreciate parks with a backdrop of the old and magnificent architectural structures of Manila. 

I can offer a little assistance for those who want to share their books.. You can send a few books to my address and I can leave the books for you. Just feel free to drop me an email. Although I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO VISIT and EXPERIENCE the sharing process for yourself. Your visit to Intramuros will not go to waste after all. There are several things to do in Intramuros.

The Fort Santiago is just across the street of Plaza Roma. A few blocks from the Manila Cathedral is the San Agustin Church that houses its own museum, classic cobblestones, Silahis Center, Babara's Restaurant, Puerta Real Garden, and the famous walls that give you a picture perfect view of Manila. Just ensure that you bring a fully charged camera and mobile phone. Your Instagram and Facebook feed will look good after a trip from Intramuros. :p Skip the mall on one weekend and spend a day tour in Intramuros.

I stayed for a while and was amazed by the discipline instilled on them. They returned and even volunteered to arrange the books on the shelves. 

I highly encourage everyone to share a few items from your book collections. The place is also a good avenue for the KonMari disciples. :p If you have books that do not anymore spark joy, leave it on the shelves of The Book Project. It will surely give joy to another eager reader. Some of your books may just be consuming space, collecting dust and mites. Give your old and excess books a new life by sharing them to another hungry reader. :) There are no restrictions as to the type of book you can donate. But of course, the project may not be the best place for your FHM magazines and the like. :p As I have said, the library is open for anyone .... even for kids. :) 

The Book Stop Project is currently housed at Plaza de Roma in Intramuros, Manila. It's the park fronting the Manila Cathedral, Palacio del Gobernador (the building that houses the Commission on Elections) and restored building of Ayutamiento de Manila (currently the home of Bureau of Treasury). I love the location because I'm one of the few old souls who still appreciate parks with a backdrop of the old and magnificent architectural structures of Manila. 

I can offer a little assistance for those who want to share their books.. You can send a few books to my address and I can leave the books for you. Just feel free to drop me an email. Although I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO VISIT and EXPERIENCE the sharing process for yourself. Your visit to Intramuros will not go to waste after all. There are several things to do in Intramuros.

The Fort Santiago is just across the street of Plaza Roma. A few blocks from the Manila Cathedral is the San Agustin Church that houses its own museum, classic cobblestones, Silahis Center, Babara's Restaurant, Puerta Real Garden, and the famous walls that give you a picture perfect view of Manila. Just ensure that you bring a fully charged camera and mobile phone. Your Instagram and Facebook feed will look good after a trip from Intramuros. :p Skip the mall on one weekend and spend a day tour in Intramuros.
