candy buffet
This is the third candy buffet project I'm sharing here. The first was given for free. The second was our first paid and earning project. This third project was only half paid? Let me explain how it happened.

Our business became one of the casualties of Typhoon Mario. The heavy rains prevented us to finish our project. The main casualty is our chocolate fountain. C planned to buy the ingredients for the chocolate fountain on Friday. Unfortunately, the strong winds and rain brought some flooding to C's place. The event was scheduled on Saturday morning and there's no way for us to purchase the ingredients before 7 am. Instead of offering full refund, we agreed to offer partial refund to our client. Good thing, our client understood our predicament. So despite the little misfortune, we were able to push through with our project.

Client wanted a Barbie inspired theme. In my mind then, the theme may not be suitable for a Christening event. :)  Instead of offering the typical and very feminine Barbie style, I played with the design. I opted for a garden inspired theme. After weeks of preparation, here's the final design we were able to make.

The grass mats became a useful investment for us. It helped a lot in creating that garden inspired theme.

A showcase of pinks :) Thanks to my Dad who made the improvised stand for the cute baby dress.

The other half of our candy buffet. We were forced divide our set up because of a minor problem we encountered. We were unfortunately not provided with the tables we requested. In effect, we were forced to use whatever table is available in the function hall. We were forced to adjoin two office tables of different height and size for our buffet.

My peg for the birdhouse was inspired by the movie Up. Unfortunately, I underestimated the balloons I purchased. I should have bought more packs.

And here's the star of the buffet!

The sugar lollipops, gummy bears and the mini chocolate kisses were a hit.

And the entire project with the mismatched tables :)
Yay or nay?

Aside from work, this was the project that kept me occupied a few weeks ago. We finally had our first real and official client for our candy buffet business :). We were tasked to prepare a candy buffet for the first birthday of a baby boy. Initially, the client wanted to have a Baby TV theme. To be honest, I'm not familiar with the TV show. I later discovered that Baby TV is an entire channel dedicated to babies. I even sought the assistance of another blogger and sole sister ;) Em, to produce the felt paper characters of Baby TV. While I was conceptualizing our design, client changed his mind. He opted for a candy buffet that fitted for a basic color theme. (Dear Em, I apologize for all the inconvenience I caused you. )

My patience was quite tested with this project. I will spare you from the horrid (I'm quite exaggerating haha) details of the preparation. The people who knew me well can trace my business' pet peeves. I hate arguments. I hate proving and explaining myself. I hate being contradicted especially if I'm sure about my ideas. I hate detractors inside the group. Lastly, I can easily sense distaste and annoyance from anyone. It really irritates me when other people keep on hiding it, while my unique female hormones can easily detect it.

Setting aside the negativities, I would like to believe that we were able to surpass our client's expectations. (I hope so, haha) We prepared candies good for 150 people and with less than 100 guests, our buffet was left empty! Here are some photos before our candy buffet was attacked ;) by the eager guests.

My initial peg was teddy bear in picnic or garden inspired set up. Hence, I have to convince my partner to purchase the "artificial grass" or grass mats. Along the way, we encountered this chocolate lady bugs. Again, it took me some time to convince CC to purchase the disguised chocolates.

Thank you A for lending me this cute teddy!

The bottle labels are scrap book materials from my favorite, Papemelroti. I bought all the available stocks in their Gateway and SM Manila branches. :)

The basket which almost caused me some trouble ;) Can someone tell me that it became useful for this project?

Another exhausting week finally ended! Papers to review, coming to work at 7 am, having two consecutive classes after work, some office concerns, I can't wait for weekend! There are more work ahead next week but I know, there will always be some beautiful things I will encounter along the way. Meanwhile, here are a few that made the past week.

My favorite Bench store - This Bench store in SM Masinag is so clean, organized and has the best interior design. I love the mismatched wood structures.

Friday Cheat Day! - Java rice and chicken tenders to end a very long week. Thanks K!

Monogrammed! - Thank you Leah of The Bright Spot. In the middle of the week, I saw an LBC package on my table. I wasn't expecting anything so this came as a big surprise. It came in perfect timing because I discovered the package after my two consecutive classes.

Nice message from a bar of soap :) - Fall in love, Find happiness! Yes to this.

One of my favorite childhood junk food - Granny Goose's Kornets, please extend your retail outlets.

Oreo Cheesecake - The many times this cake appeared in this blog. Please expect more appearances :)

Minicupcakes - My favorite has to be the green tea and Nutella.

How to end a long day at work - A bowl of my favorite peanuts while watching some drama series.

Pizza and potatoes - Belated happy birthday Daddy!

Paotsin forever!!! - Lemak rice and fried sharksfin are for the win!

Share a Coke with BFF - Missing my lone BFF at the workplace. Hi T!

I love misty windows - Except for the hassles in commuting, I'm loving the colder temperature brought by the rainy season.

Teasers from our 2nd Candy Buffet Project - I will blog about our second candy buffet project soon :)

I’ve been writing so much negative thoughts lately. Sorry for spreading the bad vibes. Pardon my own way of coping to survive everything. In time, I know things will get better for me. As one of my heaven sent blog readers mentioned, it doesn’t rain forever. I’ll hold on to that reminder.

I guess it’s high time to write something happy and positive. Everything came in perfect timing because I recently finished a major project outside work. Yay! For those who read my past Sunday post, you might remember the photo teasers of a secret mission called Project C & D for Y. It’s time to unveil the details because my dear friend CC is also waiting for it.

Project C & D for Y stands for Project Candice and Diane for Yarise. I see a little grammar glitch with the names. Haha Candice (CC) and I agreed to start a Candy Buffet venture. Everything began after a long day at work that ended over a carbo-loading dinner in 8 Street. A loaded stomach and our dream of becoming rich fueled the creative juices of entrepreneurship. Haha We agreed with the idea but were hindered how to generate our first client. The heavens connived with us because CC has a niece who is about to celebrate her 7th birthday. And that niece happens to be the smart and beautiful kid, Yarise.

All the idea came early March but since I was too occupied with some unexpected tasks, the real work started on April. Yarise initially wanted a Monster High inspired candy buffet. I was challenged because the colour theme of this famous cartoon does not carry the typical cute and elegant look of candy buffets. How can I pull off an elegant candy buffet when the theme is inspired from skulls and colours of black, white, pink and blue? After some negotiations, (thank God!) Yarise agreed to have anything in pink.

We sought inspiration from different websites, searched for the cheapest and quality supplier and made things happen last Sunday. Without further ado, here's our first attempt to Candy Buffet.

We were able to provide a decent candy buffet. It wasn't as grand as those I see in Pinterest and other sites. For a start though, I would like to believe that we have surpassed the first test. :)

Here are the specific details of the buffet

The photo of the birthday girl served as the centerpiece. Instead of the usual picture frame, we used a miniature version of the artist's canvas stand. We added some decorative boxes to elevate the photo.

Another accent is the pink sketch book and letter dice from Papemelroti.

The buffet carried a pink and teddy bear theme. We initially wanted to stick with the pink theme. We found it too plain and monotonous. Hence, I decided to infuse some cuteness by taking out all the teddy bears I accumulated at home. I also added the flower pompoms to emphasize the celebrant's love for anything pink.

Our buffet was not limited to candies. We also offered mini cupcakes with frosted icing.

Guests can use the cupcake cups or the pink paperbags to secure the candies.

More than a project, CC and I are taking this endeavor to the next level. Yes, we are open for business! We can customize a candy buffet based on your preferences and budget. If you are interested to hire us, please send me an email dianewrites15(at)gmail(dot)com.
