I know that this is supposedly a Beautiful Sunday post. I should write positive and nice things. But just for this time, can I be allowed to rant? Someone tested my patience and composure before the week ended. I'm really tempted to relate the incident and vent out everything. Unfortunately, I knew the fact venting out here will never resolve the issue. Despite of everything, I'm still thankful that I have a few close friends around me. Before I went home, I related my sentiments to my two friends. I cursed and said all the bad words. Sorry... After a long verbal diarrhea, me and my other friend went to the mall and feasted over a great dinner. Oh well, my story always end up that way. A bad story will be concluded with a great and sinful dinner or another shopaholic attack. So imagine if my life would be converted to a plot for a drama series. It will definitely be boring, annoying, useless and a complete waste of time. No prince charming to provide those sappy or romantic comedy scenes. Wait, I think that's another issue to begin with. Hahahahaha

My friends don't really read my blog. One of them don't even know that I blog. Nevertheless, I'm very thankful to both of them. I love you to the moon and back B and M!!!! While there are some people who are best in cooking a perfect ruining dish for me, I'm blessed to have friends who can provide the best antidote.

Setting aside this not-so-good aspect of my life, here are the few beautiful things that made my week.

I found my long lost Korean friend!!! I don't have intentions of blogging in the middle of the week. An unlikely email landed and it was more than enough to make me the happiest.

Cold sunrise - The delayed sunrises and colder temperature in the morning ... How long will this last? I'm loving these cold mornings and the rare times I get an 8-hour sleep.

Two fruit boxes in a day - I needed this!!! This a great distraction to potato chips and all my coke intake. I have to admit though that all those stress caused me to double my coke intakes. At some point, I felt that my blood has nothing but sugar!!

Examination week is supposedly my favorite week - except for the fact that I'm faced with tons of paper to check and grades to pray for ahahahaha

In the middle of the workday.... - Oh well, wish I could express my full sentiments here... There are days when I just stare at my laptop's screen feeling nothing and suddenly, my eyes will release those unexplained tears. Grown up struggles I continuously battle...

It arrived! - Thanks to the Cath Kidston sisterhood!!! I was able to purchase this bag way cheaper than the price from CK's local branch. Big thanks to Mother E for arranging everything. Leah, please blog about your own CK's loot :)

Perfect read? - Found this 50% off from National Bookstore, thank you M for forcing me to purchase. Haha Although honestly, I'm not a big fan of self-help books. I always find this genre as an irony?!? I read a few pages but over time, I'm beginning to lose interest. Much of the examples and cases given were patterned to US data and settings.

Found a long lost favorite - Fried potato on a stick!! (Piniritong patatas, masaya si Princess Sara ahahaha)

The past week actually started good for me. The problem I've been dealing since January was finally over. In the middle of the week, I heard from a long lost friend. Before the week ended, I was served with a perfect ruining dish. The weekend started with another set of challenges. Grown up problems!!! I really hope that the upcoming week will be so much better. I needed it.

A week ago, I posted my sentiments about my attempt to reconnect with my long lost Korean friends. Part of me was very doubtful with the outcome of my plan. Sending a letter to someone after 17 years? The odds that the letter would be returned to me was not impossible. My friend could have transferred to a new address, moved to another country, the reasons and chances for the unsuccessful outcomes are so endless.

Just when I was conditioning myself that nothing will happen, something surprised me this morning. It started when I saw an unusual mail in my gmail account. The email has an extension of hanmail.com. In my mind then, who would email me from South Korea.? I checked the email and the happiness just overflowed.

My plan didn't end up as a futile attempt. I was able to successfully find my Korean penfriend after 17 years. OMG! OMG! Did I just say OMG!?!

I'm exaggeratedly speechless. :) I thought I was the only person who loves to keep letters. Turns out, my friend also kept my letters. I cannot anymore contain my happiness!!

Although I have to say that part of me is regretful for not reconnecting earlier. I later discovered that my dear friend stayed in my country for quite some time. Best about everything, she was assigned to a school near my hometown. Only God knows, our paths could have crossed already. She went to places I frequent during weekends. If only I had the courage to write years ago, I could have given my friend a decent tour in my hometown.

We may not be able to meet here but if God will allow, I hope I will be able to reach the Land of the Morning Calm. But for now, I just want to savor the fact that I found a long lost friend.

PS I have to commend Philpost's Main Branch and South Korea's Postal System too. My registered mail reached its destination in one week.

This has to be the fastest Beautiful Sunday post that I have to prepare. It's 10:56 pm in my clock, I barely have an hour to publish this post on a Sunday. I had an unexpected freelance work over the weekend. How could I not prioritize the much needed money in the bank. I usually finish this kind of freelance work overnight. Unfortunately,  it was too late for me to discover the easier way to work around. So my ending, I slept around 7 am just halfway with my task. I slept the entire day and woke up to finish the remaining workload. Unfortunately, laziness hit me so like a typical student, I ended up cramming.

Now that I'm all done with the serious work, I have to press the rush button for this blog post. I hope this will not end up so messy and lousy.

A new set of notebook - Nice, only to realize that the notebook is too beautiful for my ugly handwriting. Not really a perfect match, another friend actually deserves the notebook. I will give it to her this week.

When the going gets tough ...  - Still dealing with some issues at the workplace.. Hopefully I'll be able to finish everything tomorrow. I had enough last January. I will definitely do more walking this week.

Goody's Ouchless - Goody stopped producing my reliable hair accessory. It was hard for me to look for a replacement. It was only this brand who can manage my excessively thick hair strands. With the help of a very accommodating Sales Assistant from SM Manila, I was introduced to a new alternative... minus the little hefty price tag.

This is what Saturday nights are made of -  Oh dearest Bamboo :) I may not agree with your choices and decisions, but you still have my support.

Papal Memorabilia - I was able to purchase last of the limited edition stamps. Hopefully my other friends will receive their own copies too. Dear Philpost, don't make the wait too long :( The rosary was a gift from my previous student. I was quite happy to discover that the mother-in-law of this famous celebrity also had the same rosary :)

Best Message in a Random Hallmark Card - Shout out to AC and Mother E! Yes, we are the hottest :)

Loving my bag from Sakroots - Got this bag last year and it's only now that I discover the hidden messages around

And how can I forget the food uploads

Cheapest but at least decent cheesecake from a food bazaaar - Two cheesecakes for only Php 150, not bad I guess :) I should buy another set on Friday

When the going gets tough part 2 - When things are starting to agitate me, I treat myself to the unhealthiest yet delicious meal from Binondo

KFC fooled me again - Hahahaha Spicy gangnam chicken on a Saturday night, I still prefer Bonchon or Manang's Chicken

Stupid is forever - I just need a light and humorous read these days

I'm crossing my fingers, when I hit the publish button it will still be Sunday!!!!

I have another mission this year. I felt the sudden inclination to search my long lost friends. Let me relate the story behind this.

I mentioned in my 2015 Postcard Challenge that I have letter writing friends back in High School. I used to be very diligent in writing and sending letters. When I entered college, I lost all the interest to write. I allowed the few years of friendship to drift and fade away. And honestly, this is something I really regret. If I pursued exchanging letters, I have 7 penfriends in 17 years. Almost another treasure and milestone for me.

I'm not exactly sure what prompted me to unearth this supposedly closed chapter of my life. I guess it all started when a blog friend, Marieken opened the possibility of exchanging postcards. Since I work near the Post Office and the sentimental fool in me was suddenly awakened, I wanted to write letters again. Weeks after, I was already sending postcards to a few blog friends. Along the way, memories of my letter writing friends dawned on me. I checked my drawer of old letters and from there, I saw tons of letters I received way back 1998.

Of all the pen friends I gained, the longest exchange I had was from my Thai friend. Actually, I have reconnected with her many years ago. My old planner with her email address paved the way. It was a good thing that she maintained the same email account. I was able to successfully find her through my social media accounts. If my Thai friend took the initiative to find me, she will surely end up unsuccessful. Only God can remember how many email addresses I created and deactivated since 1998. Haha

Of the 7 penfriends I had, I was successful finding at least one. I wanted to search for everyone but my heart is longing to prioritize my two friends from South Korea.

For those who know me well, the reason is very obvious. Blame all the drama series that affected me and my intensifying dream to see the Land of the Morning Calm.

Setting aside my personal dream, I considered my two penfriends from South Korea in my list of favorites. We only exchanged letters a few times but I felt the sincerity and instant friendship. One of them even admitted that it was her first time to write a full letter in English. How could I not value the time, effort, and patience rendered for me. I have also received birthday and Christmas cards, postcards of their favorite Korean artists and crush :), stamps and one even sent me a very nice necklace, which by the way arrived to me in an opened envelope. Nice one Post Office! Hahaha Yes, I can still remember this incident way back 1998. My first taste of being personally violated by a government office. But as my Father said, I still have to be thankful. At the very least, the letter and all of its contents still reached me. Okay, forgiven even without apologies :)

Going back to the real intention of this post, the recent revival of my love for letter writing prompted me to search for my two long lost penfriends from South Korea. I took all the letters I received from them. I wrote my own letter after 17 years and reintroduced myself. I also photocopied their letters way back 1998 and all the postcards, photos and other gifts I received from them. I compiled everything in a huge envelope and went back to the Manila Central Post Office to fulfill the first step of my dream.

I already considered the possibility that my two friends already moved to new addresses. They may already have their own families or migrated to another country. It's a big possibility, given that I'm writing after 17 years. But part of me still wanted to consider the opportunity and take the slightest chance.

My two letters were sent via registered mail. It's a little more expensive but I considered safety and feedback. Should my two friends are nowhere to be found in their old addresses, the letter can be safely returned to me. If my letter successfully landed on them, at least I would know even though they decide not to answer my letter. If such is the case, I would of course respect their decision. If they will reply to my letter, this would definitely become one of the best and happiest things that will happen in my 2015.

As much as I'd like to maintain the anonymity of my two Korean penfriends, I'm also considering the chance that my blog can serve as a bridge to this personal dream. Hence, I'm mentioning the names of my two penfriends.

Eun-Jin Ha from Songpagu, Seoul
and
Jae-un from Sunchonshi, Chonnam

I tried searching their names through my different social media accounts, only to find users who are way younger than me. Haha I'm sure it wasn't any of them. My long lost friends share my age, don't ask me to mention it. hahaha But seriously, if I'm able to reconnect with at least one of them, I would surely be the happiest.

UPDATE: I was able to successfully reconnect with Jae-un in less than one week!!  See the details in this post.

UPDATE: I was able to successfully reconnect with Jae-un in less than one week!!  See the details in this post.
I had a bad start this week. The saga about colleagues who failed to perform their responsibility  ruined me. I was forced to do something I really really really hate. I cleaned up the mess and accepted the consequences of another person's mistake. As always, learning is always coupled with some pain to endure. Oh well, I have my own shortcoming too. I assumed that other people are doing their job well. That assumption and trust got me to a very expensive trouble. Sigh...

The past week may not be the best for me. Along the way however, I was blessed with good times with a few friends. Those random dinners and unplanned meet ups are the best. In the middle of the week, I texted my bestfriend T begging for a weekend dinner. It took only one text message to arrange everything. Thank you forever T!!! I had a great time yesterday.

Aside from T, I had an unexpected dinner with my few workplace friends. Blame the traffic that made us walk to the train station. We ended having dinner somewhere in Binondo.

Cheapest Chinese dinner - One of the best things that happened to my Php 100 :) I shared this very cheap yet tasty meal with two friends. Affordable Binondo meal will always be about buttered chicken, beef brocoli and shanghai rice.

There's something about the yellow benches - It reminded me of Cindy's and the old foodcourt of SM malls. Classic!

Mailboxes are love - I dropped by the Central Post Office to send my postcards. Hopefully everything will reach its destination. Never mind the delay, as long as my postcards will be delivered. I want to end my 2015 Postcard Challenge with mission accomplished.

Another set of cards - I made another trip to the Post Office to send additional postcards. I refuse to admit that I'm addicted to letter writing again. Haha

December 14, 1998 - This is the ultimate throwback! I unearthed a card I received 17 years ago. I have another mission for this year. I'll relate everything on my next post.

Binondo hits! - This famous peanuts from Hormiga St.in Binondo is the best.  I swear, I can finish an entire bag.

Before the week started my cousin invited me to check out this outlet shop of bags and shoes in my hometown. Dear friends, you have to be proud of me .... I never purchased anything. Hooray! Hahaha I ended taking photos of the very nice store and treating myself to a slice of banoffee pie and homemade burger.

I still have minor problems to address. On the morning of Saturday, I felt like the damage is beginning to further multiply. (Whew, breathe!) January is not my best month and I can't wait for it to end. Hopefully things will get better ... sooner.

The past week has not been so good at the workplace. My projects are running smoothly. I almost don't have any problems at all. The minor trouble arose from some people who failed to perform their work. The unexpected headache... My long weekend was almost ruined if not because of a few friends who consoled me. When I related my sentiments to my friends, my initial intention was to seek their assistance on how to handle my little misfortune. I was hoping to be enlightened. Much to my surprise, we all ended laughing about all those people causing the inefficiency. Call us mean but I guess, laughing is always better than planting another seed of stress.

Prior to the long weekend, I secured documents from several government agencies. This is actually when all the problems were discovered. On the way back to the workplace, I felt refreshed to see some places I used to frequent.

Please don't mind the electrical wires, I always find beauty to this blue and white building. There are a lot of fastfood chains and local banks on the ground floor. This area never fails to gain foot traffic, I just don't know if they share the same appreciation with this beautiful infrastructure.

Another new / old beautiful building  - I love that the owner decided to construct the building inspired by neoclassical architecture.

The Manila Cathedral - No doubt about the beauty of this hundred year old Cathedral. I saw a handful of foreigners who are probably part of Pope Francis' advance committee.

Had a quick trip to Binondo to buy a simple present for the Boss' birthday - I have to find the famous peanut kiosk in Binondo. Thanks to my friend W, we found the most coveted peanut kiosk in Hormiga St. I should have taken photos of the queue of lines. There were locals and foreigners joining the crowd of excited buyers.

And just because it took me a  lot time and effort to purchase bags of peanuts, I treated myself to my favorite "dirty" street ice cream.

Cute signage from a homegrown burger place - Chevy Burger, I hope to see you soon again.

Feeling Korean - I have been seeing this bottle of soju from 7-11 for the longest time. I didn't want to buy it from the 7-11 store near the workplace. I wanted to protect my image as a good teacher. LOL This weekend, my cousin joined and supported my curiosity. She purchased one from another 7-11 branch.. away from home and the workplace. Haha We googled different ways on how to enjoy soju... The outcome: it was just too strong for us! Our excitement made us forget to read the label which states 19% alcohol!!!

Les Miserables 1978 (I think) - The priest who saved Jean Valjean from the police reminded me of Pope Francis.

The Production Number on old local films - One thing we always laugh about the old local films (Era of Manilyn, Lotlot and company), there has to be a full dance production number. Long before Glee and High School Musical started, there's always the Filipino local films equipped with full production number.

This week has been filled with stories and encounters with Pope Francis in the Philippines. For me, this is probably one of his best photos. :)

Beautiful Sunday # 143 - The Rare Long Weekend

Not all of my friends know that I have obsession for postcards. I both love collecting postcards and sending them away to my friends abroad. Back when I was in still in High School, I used to have seven penfriends. I would set aside part of my daily allowance for the mailing expenses. The trips to the Post Office formed part of my growing up years. I'm one of the few people who loves Post Offices, despite the convenience of email and common complaints of mails, parcels and packages delivered late or getting lost along the way. I have my own share of mails, parcels and packages delivered late or worst, not arriving at all. I received parcels that were opened without my consent. I have Xmas cards that arrived on Valentine's Day. I recently sent two postcards one enroute to Netherlands and another to a province somewhere down south. Surprise of surprises, the postcard to Netherlands arrived a little more than a week. I only paid Php 14 for the stamps to Netherlands, such amount of money cannot even afford a trip to the next train station. Yet it was delivered liked a priority mail. As for the local mail, I paid twice the amount and as of date, its whereabouts are still unknown.

While I have learned to tolerate delayed deliveries, what I cannot bear is the half-forced imposition of monetary gifts of some Postman during December. I'm so much willing to give gifts. I just dislike it when I'm forced to be generous.

Despite the imperfections of the Post Office, I do love it especially the Manila Central Post or the Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost). I have featured the rare and great neoclassical building and the very accommodating employees many times here. Because I still love the Post Office and the sentimental fool in me still longs for those handwritten letters, I decided to revive my love for letter writing. So for this year, one of my personal targets is to send at least 12 postcards to friends all over the world. I have reached a few blog friends and I'm happy that most of them agreed to give their mailing addresses. I'm excited to send my postcards on Tuesday. This would mean another trip to the Philpost!

To those who share my sentimental foolishness to postcards and handwritten letters, please don't hesitate to send me an email. I would love to include you in my mailing list. Hopefully, our post offices will cooperate and have all my postcards delivered just in time :)
