Remember this unique black soap?

I blogged about it last month here.

After several weeks of using it, I'm fulfilling my promise of writing a review. But please, don't get the idea of me becoming as a beauty blogger. LOL I'm way far from becoming one.

I purchased my first black pearl soap last February 15 from Watsons. You know what happened to me over the past weeks to months. I'm occupying myself with concerns that don't really happen in the first place. LOL Hence, one of the casualties of my self-imposed unnecessary stress is my skin. I'm nearing that age when either-I-make-it-or-break-it in every aspect of my life. I panicked and as expected, I stressed myself. I can handle stress but not early signs of aging.  Hence, Watsons has become my happy place lately.

In one of my Friday night trips to Watson, I saw a row of organic soaps. I was attracted by its black packaging and its claim to be organic. I decided try the smallest piece. I started using the soap weeks ago and realized that my first black soap will soon be gone. I took this as a cue to make my first beauty post ;)

Prior to writing this review, I googled reviews from other bloggers. Most of the articles I read gave great reviews. A few complained but there were more positive reviews. Amidst the many bloggers who complained and praised the product, here's my own take.

Positive Points

1. I find the small soap affordable at Php 65-70. I can't remember the exact price. They have a larger size at Php 150 (if I'm not mistaken).
2. Despite the small size, it lasted almost a month to me. I used it every morning and before I sleep.
3. It lessened the nasty white heads.
4. Of the several weeks of using it, I never had pimple eruptions. I was convinced that it prevented the occurrence of pimples because I'm depriving myself of sleep over the past weeks.
5. It has a unique cooling effect. For me, this is one of the product's strength. Some facial soaps and facial wash would give me a mild burning sensation on some areas of my face (the side of my nose where most black and white heads usually thrive). This painful sensation was replaced by the soap's unique cooling effect.
6. My skin does not feel dry, tight and flaky after using it. My problem with the usual facial wash is the strong after effects. My oily skin often ends up clean but too dry with some facial wash. I have to immediately lather moisturizer otherwise, my face would end up flaking. This soap however addressed my recurring problems with most facial wash.
7. It doesn't have any strong scent. For some reason, I appreciate odorless soaps especially for my face.

Negative Points

1. I didn't give me whiter or even lighter complexion. hahaha
2. It stains other soap and the soap dish.
3. It didn't vanish those nasty black heads. It only addresses the whiteheads.
4. Although it's a minor issue, I don't like the cheap inside packaging. The soap was enclosed in a plastic wrap with a strip of scotch tape.
5. It has limited distribution channels. It is only available in Watsons and Hortaleza beauty shops.
6. I haven't seen an expiry date, which is critical among all natural or organically produced beauty products. (UPDATE: My recent purchase already included an expiry date). The box does not mention it's organic but the company website identifies it as part of its organic line. You can learn more about the company that produces the soap here.

Will I repurchase the product?

Yes. I love its cleansing capacity, cooling effect, absence of harsh after effects and the affordable price.

Obviously, I'm enjoying writing about Mutual Funds. This is despite the fact that none of my blog friends are interested in this serious topic. LOL However, I rarely experience the inclination to write anything about financial management. Why? I'm convinced that it's because the topic is too serious and boring. If I would return to my carefree 20s, I'm sure that this topic wouldn't interest me as well.

I'm ashamed to admit that I'm not financially equipped and disciplined in the first place. In short, I'm not rich. LOL  I'm managing my debts, rebuilding my savings account and  my monthly salary does not complement my spending habits. However, I would like to believe that Mutual Funds will serve as the first step in my much desired and prayed financial independence. So please wish me luck friends :) I hope to overcome all my financial worries within the next three years.

I will answer the second and last questions

Where companies to invest?

I would like to clarify that I'm not promoting a specific company for Mutual Funds. I believe that each company has its own strengths, premium and special offers. Some may provide higher earning rates, while others have conservative rates with added features to compensate. I'm leaving you the task of comparing and contrasting. What I will present here are local companies and brief information about their Mutual Fund offerings.

Sun Life Asset Management Company (SLAMC)

This is where I made my first Mutual Fund investment. I decided to venture in Sun Life because of its long history of existence, positive reputation, strength and stability. It was founded in 1865 and from Canada and it ventured across economies. I also appreciate its conservative earning rates. For some reason, I feel complacent that the company doesn't offer those too-good-to-be-true interest rates.

The only thing you might not like about Sun Life is their requirement of meeting a Financial Agent ;) I think the company requires that all clients will receive a personal orientation of what to expect about Mutual Funds.  To know more about Sun Life's Mutual Funds please click here. By the way, Sun Life calls their Mutual Fund Investment as Prosperity Funds. I guess this has something to do with the branding and distinction.

Philam Asset Management Inc. (PAMI)

Philamlife was bombarded with worried plan holders (including myself) when its mother company, US' AIG suffered liquidity crisis in 2008. I'm not aware of AIG's status as of date. However, I believe that the local company is way spared from mismanagement and recession. The Philippine economy may not be as rich with that of Singapore, Japan, China and South Korea. However, what sets forth the Philippine economy is the rather conservative but stable growth.

PAMI offers eight types of Mutual Funds. You can find more about their Mutual Funds here.

BPI (Bank of the Philippines Islands) Investment Fund

One of leading universal banks in the Philippines offer Mutual Fund investment opportunities too. You can learn more about their investments here. What I appreciate about BPI's mutual fund investment is you can apply online. If  you have a BPI savings account enrolled online, you can use your account to conveniently submit an application. No need to meet up with Financial Agents! Just a note to remember, please read their terms and agreement carefully.

BDO Unit Investment Trust Funds

This is BDO's version of Mutual Funds. BDO offers several types of investment opportunities. You can learn more about their investment opportunities here. One thing I admire about BDO, the stability and growth of their company.  Just look at how BDO branches are invading the country. However, one disadvantage I see about BDO's investment opportunities is the relatively higher minimum investment requirement. Depending on the type of investment you will choose, the lowest I checked was Php 10,000.

First Metro Asset Management Incorporated (FAMI)

Here's a company that limits its function to Mutual Funds. FAMI is a member of the Metrobank group of companies. I guess this provides plus points because Metrobank is one of the largest local banks. One distinct characteristic of the company, I was surprised to discover that it is partly owned by a group of schools. In particular, its ownership is divided to 70% from FAMI, 15% from Catholic Education Association of the Philippines (CEAP) and the 15% from Marist Brothers Foundation. What I appreciate about this company is the ease of application for their mutual funds. An interested investor can simply download and accomplish the form, fax or submit application form, deposit your initial investment and submit the deposit slips. Everything could even be submitted through email.  For those who cannot accommodate meeting with a Financial Agent, I guess FAMI can work for you. To know more about FAMI and their mutual funds, click here.

I have presented five possible companies where you can place your investment. I'm sure there are more stable and reliable companies existing in the Philippines. In the future, I might write about them. But before that, I guess I have to manage my own finances and investment too. If everything turns out well, expect me to write and share everything here.

The second week of March is coming and soon teaching will be over again. I'm looking forward for my two-month break. Come with the happiness is the sadness brought about by lesser earnings, scheduled vacations that would translate to more expenditures LOL Hopefully, some freelance works will arrive over the next two months. This would give me my much needed financial relief.

Speaking of vacations, my upcoming trip is getting nearer and up to this date, I still have some concerns to iron out. I'm getting more worried and stressed out. As much as I wanted to have a really happy vacation, I have to set aside my excitement and shift to maturity mode. Quoting my students, all I wanted to say is tssssss!

Before I forget that this should be a Beautiful Sunday post, I'm sharing some of the beautiful things I can remember. Yes, remember because I'm getting forgetful over the past stressful weeks.

It's starting to become a collection or addiction?

Longchamp! I purchased my first piece in Macau's Duty Free. For some reason, Longchamp bags in my country are just so expensive!! Hence, a trip abroad always meant getting one. :) However, I found a trusted reseller so I ended up with a brighter and bolder orange

On my next trip, please don't blame if I get another piece haha Anyway, I got my second bag on a super discounted deal. Happiness!

Meanwhile at the workplace,
I discovered a blue iced tea! Despite being "blue" it doesn't taste very sweet and artificial. I will surely have more glasses over the next weeks.

The highlight of my week is when I visited a friend
in her resting place.
For those who still remember, I lost a great friend last year. Time flies so fast, I haven't realized that it's already her first death anniversary.

Someone showed me the real meaning of strength
My only surviving grandparent is my paternal grandpa. He was hospitalized a few days ago and I was the happiest when I heard that he was already discharged before the weekend. Would you believe, he's already 86 years old? I can't wait to spend more years with this strong man. Oh dear Lolo (grandpa), please live more years. I want to share with you more milestones and happy memories.

I almost forgot to include this in my special Sunday post
Despite the convenience of email, Facebook and Twitter messages, I still love receiving handwritten letters.
Thank you namemate!  You made my week. You just don't know how I appreciate your wisdom, encouragement and inspiring words. This will surely be for keeps and so is our friendship.

How about you? What are some beautiful things that made your week?

On the way home, I saw a sea of rallyists near the jeepney station. Honestly, I felt a bit irritated because their presence would mean some sacrifice for me. Traffic worsened, my 15-minute ride to the train station will most likely triple, and the end result, I would come home late.

I ignored the expected hassles and I was able to reach home safe and still early. I logged in my Facebook account and discovered a number of status messages greeting their female friends as Happy Women's Day. Now I know what's the cause of the huge rally. The organization who led the rally is a leftist female group.

In my attempt to find meaning amidst the over-flooding of status updates, I found this simple yet inspirational video from Vimeo.

I think I'm enjoying writing about Mutual Funds. Even though I admit that I cannot equate even an inch to those financial gurus, I 'm beginning to love writing about investments and financial management. Where did I get the courage to write something I don't possess in the first place? Or better yet, this should rather challenge me to walk my own talk. In that case, count me in now. Although I want to make it clear that I don't really envision myself to become one of the richest. At the very least, all I wanted is to become financially stable and independent as I age. I guess this sounds as the more realistic challenge.

Going back to the real intention of this post, I wanted to relate my own view of who should really invest in Mutual Funds.

Who should invest in Mutual Funds?

Anyone can definitely invest in Mutual Funds. As long as you have valid IDs and the required amount for investment, you are in! However, allow me to be more specific and identify the best people who can benefit from Mutual Funds.

Are you an employee who doesn't have the talent and bravery in venturing to entrepreneurship?

If your answer is yes, you are the best candidate to become a Mutual Fund investor.

I'm an employee too and I perfectly understand your sentiments. As they say, we are too complacent and dependent to our tenure and constant supply of monthly income. It's hard for us to let go of job stability.

If you cannot leave your stable job, by all means get an investment opportunity. At least in the Philippine setting, the safest investment opportunity that everyone runs to is a savings account or for some, a time deposit account. However, we all know that the regular bank savings account doesn't yield high profitable returns. When I went to the bank last Friday, I was surprised with the dwindling interest rates of a regular savings account. At 0.25% annual interest rate, how far can your hard worked money earn? If you have Php 10,000 in your savings account, that would mean an annual earning of Php 25. Whoa! It cannot even afford you a decent lunch.

Though to clarify, I'm not discouraging everyone from maintaining a savings account. Savings account can act as a temporary shelter of our investment fund opportunity and at the same time, it serves as a source of emergency funds.

How about entrepreneurs?

The more that entrepreneurs should invest in Mutual Funds! I particularly recognize the owners of SMEs (small to medium scale enterprises). Much of the economy's performance and outlook are fueled by their business activities. In order for them to increase their capital and earnings, I strongly recommend that they consider investing in Mutual Funds. Mutual Funds will provide them another win-win situation.

Are you a student who has part time jobs or can spare some money from your monthly allowance?

If at an early age you can already generate money aside from your allowance, then consider yourself as lucky to start early. I guess there's no need to explain the benefits of investing early. Aside from receiving higher returns in the future, you can train, discipline and develop the inclination to investing. Although I strongly advise that you maintain a savings account first. Once you have established your targeted savings, then go forth and invest.

Have you received a great amount of money recently?

If you are a healthy pensioner or a beneficiary and is troubled on how to handle your money, Mutual Funds can serve as your initial investment opportunity.

You might be surprised because I consider even pensioners as a potent client for Mutual Funds. Unlike other investment opportunities, Mutual Funds does not discriminate age. Although the earnings of Mutual Funds is very dependent on time, pensioners can still benefit because Mutual Funds can register earnings in less than a year. They can still experience their funds' earnings.  So even though they are bound by the constraint of time, they can still invest. I have also mentioned in my previous post that in cases of death, the legitimate heirs can claim for the fund and its earnings.

For those who have received a huge amount of money and is troubled by the temptation to spend or the fear of losing it, Mutual Funds can serve as your initial safety cushion. The best about Mutual Funds is that it provides you relatively higher earning rates that you cannot easily consume. Though to clarify, I don't suggest investing your full money in Mutual Funds. As always, follow the principle of Portfolio Diversification or simply, don't contain your eggs in one basket. Continuously search for safe and profitable means to grow your hard worked and hard earned money.

In summary, I strongly suggest everyone to try investing on Mutual Funds. But please remember the precautionary considerations I mentioned in my previous post. Any investment opportunity brings a possibility of losses. The only way we can lessen the effect of this misfortune, pray harder, work harder, earn more and like what I mentioned, diversify. Never get tired of looking for opportunities that can increase your wealth and yours truly will do her share by writing them.

First beautiful Sunday post for March! As I'm typing this post, I'm still reminiscing the first month of the year. Where did time go? Before the year started, I was contemplating about so many things. Grown up problems, finances, career, and look how fast time flies. It's the third month of the year and I'm still alive. LOL Despite the never ending concerns, I'm still here and fighting. Hooray! haha

The past week has just been.... fine. I managed to score a quick freelance job and client was generous enough to pay me in US dollars. It was the first time someone paid me in $$$! It will be very useful for my upcoming trip. I'm still cooking another freelance work and I'm praying that it will really push through.

In the mean time that I'm still waiting and occupied with growing worries and concerns, here are some things that made my week

  Thank you dear students!

And speaking of great students, I had a rare good laugh with one of them last Friday. Thanks T! It's been a while since I laughed that hard for the longest time. One thing I learned about our silly conversation...

 And as always,

My greatest addiction! But seriously, I was having second thoughts about this pair. Haha What in the world convinced me to buy an orange shoes? Will break in this pair on my next travel adventure.... hopefully :)

Beautiful Sunday # 45 Third month and still fighting

First beautiful Sunday post for March! As I'm typing this post, I'm still reminiscing the first month of the year. Where did time go? Before the year started, I was contemplating about so many things. Grown up problems, finances, career, and look how fast time flies. It's the third month of the year and I'm still alive. LOL Despite the never ending concerns, I'm still here and fighting. Hooray! haha

And no, this is not a sponsored post. How I wish it was. LOL
A few nights ago, Samsonite surprised me with an unexpected tweet. They didn’t give me a free luggage. (Oh, that would have been the best! Haha) They simply took time to recognize my melancholy but hopeful sentiments. Let me relate the entire story behind the surprising tweet.

My usual day ends by checking my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I bring my iPad in bed and before going to sleep, I made an emotional tweet. So how and why did I suddenly become emotional and sentimental over a piece of luggage?
In a few more weeks, I’m bound to make my next travel adventure. Despite planning way ahead of time, I still have issues and problems to settle. This has been plaguing me over the past days. I’m already considering cancelling my trip but deep inside, I know that retreating will never be an option. Never!

One of the sources of my problems is the search for the great luggage that will serve as my reliable companion. In the past, I'm shy to admit that I always borrow my friend's luggage. My past trips abroad always meant relying on Anne's luggage and kindness. I wanted to acquire my own luggage but as much as possible, I don't want to purchase anything except for my dream Samsonite Cosmolite series. I particularly wanted the Cosmolite in red.

A little information about Samsonite's Cosmolite is its very light weight at 2.2 kgs. Wow! The scratch free feature and elegant shell like structure won my heart. The fact that it's also Samsonite, I know that the brand carries quality.

You might be wondering, why did I end up coveting one of Samsonite's Cosmolite collections. Everything was influenced by my addiction to the Korean drama series, My Princess.
For those who are reading my blog for quite some time, you might remember my post about my addiction to My Princess.

In the entire stretch of the episodes, this  red  Samsonite luggage made significant appearances.

The luggage is undoubtedly, beautiful, and since it carries the name of Samsonite, it’s a valuable and worth a lifetime purchase. Truth is, the luggage served as the bridge between Liesl and Mr.P. So the shallow, cheesy and hopeless-romantic-igniting drama series made me dream of owning Samsonite’s masterpiece. However, we all know that every Samsonite comes in a little hefty price. So up to this day, everything remains as a dream to fulfill. At some point, I almost thought that I was Liesl. LOL We both want to own the red Samsonite but our main difference, she has Mr. P! While me? Oh, let's talk about it in another post. Haha

So there, now you know that entire reason why I love Samsonite's Cosmolite. I was dreaming of my own travel adventure and in a way, my own Mr. P. too. haha

Dear Samsonite,

Thank you recognizing my emotional outpour. Thank you for treating me like a valuable existing customer. I will work harder to purchase my own Red Cosmolite. Aside from serving as a reliable partner, my future Red Cosmolite will serve as a companion and instrument to my succeeding travel adventures.

And oh please, like Liesl, please wait for me and my own Mr. P. ;)
